Dell PowerEdge Servers for Business in Canada

Dell PowerEdge is Dell's server line, sold as rack servers in 1U, 2U and larger heights, and as tower servers. Choose the form factor first, then size the processor, memory, storage and support around your workload. Dell groups PowerEdge models into generations, from 14G to 17G, so check the generation as well as the model. Every listing shows the public CAD MSRP.

How to Choose a PowerEdge Server

Rack or tower is mostly a question of space. Tower servers suit a small office with no rack: they stand on the floor or a shelf. Rack servers fit a standard cabinet, scale better as you add equipment, and 1U and 2U heights trade density for room to add drives and cards. The letter in the model name tells you which you are looking at, R for rack and T for tower.

A PowerEdge is configured around the workload: processor, memory, drives and RAID controller, power supplies (redundant if downtime matters), network cards and remote management through iDRAC. Many listings here are the base system, so send your configuration or your workload and your account manager prices the complete server. Add the operating system and licenses, such as Windows Server, and Dell's support and deployment services, such as ProDeploy, to the same request.

To price a server accurately, send the workload, the number of users, the storage and memory you need, rack or tower, the generation of any servers you manage alongside it, and how long you want support. Click Request a Quote and an account manager, in English or French, returns a competitive CAD price. Dataworld is an authorized Dell reseller.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should we choose a rack or a tower PowerEdge?
Choose a tower if you have no rack and need one or two servers in an ordinary room. Choose a rack server if you have a cabinet or a server room, or expect to add equipment. Dell makes both: rack models in 1U, 2U and larger heights, and tower models.
What does the PowerEdge generation mean?
Dell groups PowerEdge servers with common design components into generations, such as 14G, 15G, 16G and 17G. Newer generations bring newer processors and memory. If you manage several servers together, ask for the same generation so parts and tools match.
What do I send for a PowerEdge quote?
Send the workload and number of users, the processor, memory and storage you need, rack or tower, the operating system, and the support or deployment services you want. If you only have a workload, describe it and your account manager proposes a configuration.
Where do I find memory, drives and racks for a server?
They have their own sections: Memory, Processors, Server Racks and UPS & Power Equipment, linked below. Add them to the same quote request as the server and the whole project is priced together in CAD.
