- How many ports does my KVM switch need?
- Count the computers you want to control and add spare ports if you expect to grow. Then match the video connection on those computers, decide whether you need dual-monitor support, and check whether shared USB devices such as webcams or drives must switch too. Describe your setup in your quote request so the model you are quoted fits it.
- Will a KVM switch support my monitor's resolution?
- It will if the switch supports your display's resolution and refresh rate and the cables are rated for it. Higher resolutions such as 4K at 60 Hz are more demanding, so check the specifications on the product page. If you are unsure, include your monitor and computer models in your quote request.
- What is the difference between a desktop KVM, a rack KVM and an IP KVM?
- Desktop units sit on a desk and switch a few computers for one user. Rack-mount KVMs and LCD consoles install in a server rack and manage many servers from one keyboard and screen. IP KVM adds access over the network, so administrators can work on servers without being in the room. KVM extenders cover distance in between.
